Traditionally and naturally farmed grapes from Cerqueira Vineyard owned and farmed by our wine maker Michael Bartier of Bartier Bros. Cerqueira Vineyard is located on the lower side of Black Sage Road between Oliver and Osoyoos. This wine showcases the expert farming, not a winemaker's manipulations. Enjoy the rich aromas of black cherry, berries, plum and herbs and baker's chocolate.
Michael's phylosphy of wine making includes "do nothing unless you have to", and with these beautiful grapes they made the wine themselves.
Rick Vansickle of Niagara Wines says this:
40 Knots Stall Speed Merlot 2016 (90 points) — The “Stall Speed” collection from 40 Knots is where the winemakers push the boundaries “to create bold, free-spirited wine from B.C. grapes.” The fruit for this Merlot comes from the naturally farmed Cerqueira Vineyard owned and farmed by winemaker Michael Bartier. The vineyard is located on the lower side of Black Sage Road between Oliver and Osoyoos. It has a beautiful nose of ripe red fruits, plums, black currants, cocoa and herbs. It is thick and rich with a bold attack of red and dark fruits, full tannic structure and weight with licorice and herb accents on the finish. A delicious and pure wine.
John Schreiner says this:
40 Knots Stall Speed Merlot 2016. Stall Speed is the tag used when the winery purchases Okanagan varietals that cannot be grown successfully on Vancouver Island. The grapes for this wine are from the Cerquiera Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench farmed by Michael Bartier, who is also the consulting winemaker for 40 Knots. This is a big, ripe wine with aromas and flavours of black cherry and plum. There is a hint of licorice on the finish. 90.
