Minimum intervention and extended aging in amphora result in outstanding aroma. Grapefruit and orange bitters leap out of the glass, followed by an intriguing dry and complex palate. Subtle tannin adds texture and complexity to this aromatic and food-friendly wine. Naturally vegan friendly and gluten free.
Terroir - Salish Sea: Soils consisting of sandy gravelly marine over sandy gravelly morainal leading to schistic clay at 12-16' depths. Elevation sloping 3° seaward. Hot to moderate day temp, cooling at night from the ocean breeze. Very mild winters, seldom reaching below 0°C. Farming: VSP (Vertical Shoot Position)/cane pruning (single and double cane). Sustainable farming methods, no synthetics and minimum organic certified products used.
Wine Making: Schonberger whole berry, no crush, gentle punch downs in Amphora, terracotta from Florence, Italy. On skins for 3 months. No malolactic ferment. No additions and S02 levels below 20mg/l. No acid added, natural PH. Native fermentation, no yeast added. No finning, no filter, minimal effective sulphites.
Food Pairing Notes
Versatile food pairings. Hard cheeses, charcuterie, roasted almonds, citrus glazed poultry.
John Schreiner 40 Knots L’Orange 2016 ($36.90 for 1,132 litres). This wine is made with Schönburger grapes fermented with wild yeast in an amphora. The wine remained in contact with the skins for three months. The wine has a lovely orange hue and aromas of mango and orange. It has flavours of orange peel and spice. The finish is dry. 90.

My absolute favourite wine in the Comox Valley. This is what I treat myself (and my friends) to on special occasions!! Natural wine making processes means there is never any hangover effects. Keep making this amazing wine.
